Rugby

Dear Parents,

We will be providing students with a choice between three different rugby formats during the forthcoming Christmas term, which will allow students to enjoy playing rugby in a format that suits them.

We will be continuing with our traditional programme, while also offering conditioned contact training for those students who are wanting to learn the physical skills of the game, but don’t feel quite ready for contact matches. We will create a pathway for these students, which will allow them to develop and play Ready 4 Rugby matches, which will lead to an opportunity to step up to the full contact format trusting they feel confident to do so.

For those students that would prefer to not to take part in the contact form of the game, we will offer touch rugby where the focus will be on developing passing and evasion skills, while looking at providing appropriate fixtures so that all students can represent the College. There will be opportunities to progress through the formats, while still getting to enjoy the key parts of the game.

I appreciate that a number of new students joining the College may have a limited experience of playing rugby, and prefer a more cautious approach when selecting the format they would like to be involved in. This can be reviewed throughout the term and any transition between formats will be mutually agreed via an updated Microsoft Form.

Please would you complete the linked Microsoft Form, from which we will place your child in the appropriate group to start in September. We will be fluid throughout the process and will always be open to discussion, as this will be new for everyone involved.

With kind regards

Mr Ben Johnston
