Sixth Form Dress Code

Dear Sixth Form Parents,

In advance of the start of term on Friday 2nd September for Lower Sixth (and Monday 5th September for Upper Sixth) we wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of our uniform expectations in the Sixth Form.

Our expectation of the behaviour and presentation of our Sixth Form students at St George’s is high. They not only set an example to the younger years in their behaviour and appearance, but are also a powerful representation of the College every time they travel to and from school, in their volunteering within the community, in their sports fixtures and in extra-curricular activities.

The Sixth Form dress code allows for more freedom than in the Lower and Middle School, as it is one way we try to support students in their transition from school life into the workplace.

To that end, we would like to remind you of the following uniform requirements:

  • A tailored suit (either black, blue or grey with the option of a thin pin-stripe) with a Sixth Form (or Prefect) tie.
  • A business-style trouser suit, or business-style skirt, with shirt or blouse – the skirt must be of an appropriate length for a professional workplace.
  • A smart dress that covers the shoulders and is of an appropriate length for a professional workplace.
  • Smart shoes – no trainers or shoes with a high heel/platform.

We appreciate that styles come in and out of fashion, which is why we are sending this reminder in plenty of time before the start of the Christmas term.

Sixth Form students should wear their suit jacket / blazer to and from the College, to and from lessons, during Chapel services and on formal occasions. In the Summer Term it may be the case that jackets are not required to be worn around the school campus, but students must still wear them to and from the College and during Chapel services. Students will be notified of this change.

Please note that if a student wears a jumper, it must fit comfortably under a blazer, and is not a replacement for a blazer. Jumpers should be plain with no logo. Hoodies, baggy jumpers and sweatshirts are not permitted.

On Wednesday afternoons students must wear sports kit that conforms with the PE Department’s guidelines.

Should a student not be following the dress code, they will be challenged by a member of staff. Every effort will be made to avoid any embarrassment and to do this discreetly where appropriate. However staff reserve the right to challenge a student’s appearance on this premise and warnings will be issued where appropriate.

We hope you accept this reminder in the manner it is intended. We are incredibly proud of our Sixth Form students and want them to look professional and business-like at all times. We know that they will continue to be superb ambassadors for St George’s College.

Many thanks,

The Sixth Form Team
